The Fourth Kind, The Final, The Graves & The Reeds

Now in its final day of the ongoing self-imposed After Dark horror film festival, the movies have been getting worse and worse.
Although The Fourth Kind was not part of the horror festival, it was highly recommended since I enjoyed Lake Mungo which I gave 9/10 in my earlier review. Both are similar in which they use real video footage to make it like it really happened and it is quite effective in generating genuine chills. Starring Milla Jovovich (from Resident Evil fame) as the psychologist who conducts hypnosis on its patients that have experienced alien encounters.

Next we have The Final which is one of the entries for this years After Dark Horrorfest. Frankly I don't see why this can be considered part of the horrorfest as it always boasts of movies which are extreme in its violence and gore to be shown in theatres. What you get in this movie is a PG-13 rated horror movie with very little budget for the special effects. Only horrifying if you think acupuncture is too extreme.

Other than the usual eye candy of the 2 graves sisters (that's their surnames) escaping from a deserted tourist spot, there is nothing to recommend to watch The Graves. Cheap sound effects are used to cover its low budget. Also starring Tony Todd (Candyman) as the priest.

British horror The Reeds is slightly better in terms of originality and camera work. However, in the end it fails due to the confusing storyline and loses steam as it goes along.
