Video Games Live - Live in Kuala Lumpur

It was an evening to remember for me and many other gamers yesterday. For one day only, the National Symphony Orchestra will play for you some of the most memorable video game music ever made. The titles include themes from Castlevania, Chrono Trigger, God of War, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Megaman, Super Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Zelda and also a montage of 20 arcade music. All of the performances are accompanied by the trailer of the game and are in sync. And occasionally a character from the game will also appear and act in front of the stage.

Ever since I knew about their first performance in 2005, I have always hoped that Video Games Live will one day perform in Malaysia live. Apparently, according to founder/host of the show Tommy Tallarico, many Malaysian fans were angry that they performed in Singapore last year and did not come to Malaysia. So all of us were very grateful that they came at last.

Apart from the music, there are also some special segments which makes Video Games Live unique:
A member of the audience was chosen to play space invaders using a joystick to shoot and his body to move the spaceship.
Live interview with the inventor of the first video game, Ralph Baer via Skype
Guitar Hero challenge with a local champion
