IP Man 2 Movie Review

After the tremendous disappointment of watching True Legend in my earlier review, here comes another martial arts flick which is a sequel to the highly successful IP Man released in 2008.

IP Man 2 continues where the first movie left off in which IP Man (played by Donnie Yen) manages to escape from the Japanese occupied China into Hong Kong to live.

The storyline is almost similar to the first movie. Both of the movies consists of duels against other martial arts teachers. And nstead of fighting against the Japanese in the first movie, IP Man now fights against an English boxer.

However one of the highlights and main attraction in this movie is the duel between Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung, who not only acts as one of the main characters but is also the fight choreographer in this movie. The fight scene is made even more interesting as the arena is a unique idea.

Actor Simon Yam, who played as IP Man's best friend and saved his life in the previous film, is a waste here and this sequel could have been made without his character. All he does is to act as mentally disabled (due to being shot in the head by the Japanese) and is constantly eating. (not bad for a supporting role - just come on set and eat).

In short, this sequel is as good as the original, if not better due to the appearance of Martial Arts legend Sammo Hung. Although the plot has been done countless times and is very predictable, it is still worth a watch just for the exciting fight scenes alone. (Rating 8/10)
